Global Hunger Awareness Webinar with Manolo Gonzalez Vergara & Jean-Martin Bauer

Today I had the opportunity to join a powerful and eye-opening webinar with a small group of participants featuring Manolo Gonzalez Vergara and Jean-Martin Bauer. The discussion focused on one of the most important humanitarian issues in the world today—global hunger, food insecurity, and real solutions that can help millions of people.

It was a meaningful conversation that opened eyes to the reality many families face every single day across the globe. Hunger is not always caused by a lack of food. In many cases, it is caused by conflict, broken supply chains, inflation, poverty, political instability, weather disasters, corruption, and the inability to move food into areas where it is desperately needed.

Jean-Martin Bauer shared insights from his book The New Breadline, explaining how hunger affects communities in both developing nations and wealthier countries. He discussed how even when food exists, it often does not reach the people who need it most because of transportation problems, violence, border restrictions, damaged infrastructure, and economic inequality.

One important topic was the growing food insecurity crisis in Colombia and parts of South America. While Colombia has made progress in many areas, rural communities and regions impacted by armed conflict, migration pressure, and poverty still face food shortages. Families displaced by violence or economic hardship often struggle to maintain stable access to healthy meals. Similar challenges exist across parts of Haiti, Africa, South America, India and sections of Asia where instability and disaster continue to disrupt food systems.

The webinar also highlighted that hunger is not limited to one continent. Across portions of Africa, prolonged drought, conflict, and inflation have created emergency conditions. In Haiti, gang violence and instability have made food delivery extremely difficult. In parts of Asia, flooding, displacement, and poverty continue to create hardship for millions.

One of the most impactful moments was seeing the live hunger data through the Hunger Map, which visually tracks food insecurity around the world. It served as a reminder that hunger is global—but so is compassion.

The conversation was not only about problems—it was also about hope.

They discussed innovation, modern logistics, agricultural technology, digital cash assistance, youth leadership, and how the next generation can become part of the solution. Young people today have the ability to create awareness faster than any generation before them through education, social media, entrepreneurship, and activism.

I also want to give respect to Sofía Vergara and her family for helping raise awareness through their platform. When people with influence use their voice for causes bigger than fame or business, it can create real momentum. We need more of that in today’s world.

What stood out most to me was simple: awareness matters.

Sometimes people don’t help because they don’t know. Events like this webinar help educate people who may never have realized how widespread hunger truly is. Once people understand the issue, they can begin to support real change.

Thank you to Manolo Gonzalez Vergara and Jean-Martin Bauer for taking the time to educate others and help create awareness.

The world has enough resources to feed people. The challenge is getting those resources where they need to go—and building systems that last.

Awareness leads to action. Action leads to change.
